FAQ

1. Can I order one pop of each flavor?

I’m happy to hear you love us so much you want to do that! Right now, poetic pops is a one-woman company (that’s me). I rent a commercial kitchen, but do not have a lot of inventory. What that means to you is, you can either buy an assortment package
(my choice) or choose any one or two flavors per assortment.

2. Are poetic pops vegan/vegetarian friendly?

Yes! All of the pops are vegetarian-friendly. The chocolate and coffee pops contain butter, as do the soft centers in the “Stuffed” Pops. Honey Moons contain raw honey.

3. Is there corn syrup in your candy?

There is no corn syrup in the hard candy. There is corn syrup in the soft centers. There are traces of corn syrup in some of the food colorings.

4. Is your food coloring natural?

There are both natural and synthetic ingredients in my food coloring. I use various brands geared towards pastry.

5. Do you use local ingredients?

I use some such as Great Lakes Distillery’s Absinthe, locally roasted coffee (Anodyne, Colectivo and Pilcrow), spices and extracts from The Spice House, bitters from Bittercube, Raw White Honey from Big City Greens, and herbs, flowers and fruits from my own garden and local producers, whenever possible. I also use frozen fruit and fruit purees with no added sugar; cocoa powder, assorted spirits and liqueurs, freeze-dried and dried fruits.

6. Are poetic pops organic?

I use some organic ingredients, but the candy is not.

7. Why is your candy so expensive?

I’m glad you asked that. There are a few reasons poetic pops’ candy might cost a bit more than candy made by larger companies.

I am a new confectionery business and do everything myself.

I mean EVERYTHING. I shop for ingredients, make the candy, dust it, wrap it, deliver it to wholesalers, go to the post office to send it out to you. Everything is done by hand. Larger companies, for example, have lollipop wrapping machines. I am that machine.

I make candy in small batches. I rent a commercial kitchen in a restaurant. I have limited storage space and can’t order in large enough quantities yet to take advantage of steeper discounts.

Poetic Pops puts flavor first. While another company might use a cherry oil in their cherry candy, as an example, our cherry has: tart cherry juice, Amarena cherries from Italy, Morello cherries and freeze-dried cherries, as well as cherry oil. That’s cherry flavor from multiple elements.

8. Where is your store?

I do not have a bricks-and-mortar store. You can order online via our website. If you know of a place that might want poetic pops, email me!

9. I ordered some candy and noticed it had some white powder on it. Is it okay to eat?

Yes. Once the candy has cooled and I’ve done the demoulage (unmolding) I sieve a mixture of equal parts confectioners’ sugar and cornstarch over it. This is an extra step that protects the candy from humidity and keeps it from getting sticky. I brush off the excess with a pastry brush, sometimes a little remains on the candy or in the packaging.

10. Do you make sugar-free candy?

Not at this time.

11. I bought a Pomegranate-Rose lollipop and it was a lighter color than the last one I had. Why?

With any handmade product, there will be subtle variations in color and sometimes flavor. This is both normal and desirable.

12. What is the best way to store my candy?

In the container it came in, away from direct heat and moisture.

13. I didn’t like the candy I got. Can I get a refund?

I do not issue refunds. However, I want my customers to be satisfied and have a positive experience. Contact me if there is a problem and I will work with you.

14. Do you do custom orders?

Yes. I’d love to work with you on that. Contact me and let’s talk about it.
